The wonderful world of coin collecting came to my attention
as a 10-year-old boy. Every day I'd come home from playing baseball to
find the day's treasures that my Dad and brothers found by metal detecting
in the old park down the hill. I enjoyed the coins, but not the work.
Of course, we looked up all of the coins in our Whitman Red Book. Like
everyone else, we learned that the Holy Grail was the 1909-S VDB cent.
And like everyone else, there was no way that we could afford one. Who'd
have thought that years later I'd have bought and sold about a dozen
of them?
Over the years I've completed my sets of Lincoln Cents, Franklin
Halves, Walking Liberty Halves, Type Gold, 1936-42 Proofs, and a good
number of 20th Century Key Dates. More recently, I've gotten a good
start on Classic Commemoratives and Civil War Tokens.
I am a former VP of Sales & Marketing for a $500 million corporation
and decided to start my coin business a few years ago with the higher
purpose of helping people who had little or no knowledge of coins. In
that time, I have done more than 1,000 appraisals, handled collections
worth $1 to $150,000, and individual coins worth up to $30,000.
My greatest pleasure from this hobby is meeting people and helping them
to solve the mysteries of their little round pieces of metal. Sometimes
they're happy with the news, sometimes they're not. In every case, they're
treated with courtesy and complete discretion.
Enjoy this great hobby of
ours!
